Ounce of Prevention is proud to announce the 2017-18, $1000.00 OOP Scholarship recipient, Miss Bailey Eveland, a senior at PHS. Bailey will be attending Hanover College in Hanover Indiana this fall to further her academic and athletic goals. We had a total of 24 applications received and enjoyed learning about each of them and how they were affected by cancer. The Ounce of Prevention was started in 2003 when our family lost our maternal and paternal Grandmother to this dreaded disease. We found it in our hearts to make a difference in our community and started raising money for those that have been touched by cancer. 100% of all of our donations go back into our community.

Our Mission

Our Mission at Ounce of Prevention is to unify the small efforts of many to create a greater impact to assist those diagnosed with and affected by cancer in Marshall County, Indiana.

How it all began:

Jennifer Oliver Houin and Jessica Oliver were introduced personally to breast cancer when they lost not one but two grandmothers to the disease. Shortly thereafter, they felt its impact again when their brother John's wife was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 32. Needless to say, this dreaded disease had become very real to them. Frustrated, they wondered what they could do to help others in the community support those facing breast cancer.
Early 2003, they decided to take action and established "Ounce of Prevention". A not-for-profit organization, "Ounce of Prevention" was created to increase awareness of breast cancer and to raise funds to offer support to those fighting the disease in Marshall County, Indiana. Their goal is to raise money locally to be invested locally to help people they may pass on the street or at the grocery store. And they don’t want this assistance to be restricted by age, economic or belief status as some support systems are, but instead, be available to all in need.
Since its formation, Ounce of Prevention has raised upwards of $400,000 and expanded its fundraisers in many fun and inspiring ways along this awesome journey.
